Professor at Hosei University since 1993. Born in Tokyo in 1952. BA and MA in Russian literature from the University of Tokyo. 1994-95, Academic Visitor at the Department of Dance, the University of Surrey in UK. Major in Literary criticism, psychoanalysis and dance history. Member of the International Association of Theater Critics, and of the Japanese Society of Dance Research. Lives in Kamakura, Japan.
Published The Century of Dance(Shinshokan), Grimms' Fairy Tales (Kodansha), After Freud(Kodansha), Translation Is a Great Fun(Tokyo- shoseki).
