Keith,
I just found your message and agree with Smiley's recommendations. Actually, continue to read
the messages posted here and in the "chat and message" section, paying close attention to
anything posted by Smiley or Tzing. They are the KINGS of Seiko information, and great people
as well.
If you have "Complete Bible," you've got a pretty good overview of Seiko. "Citron" is good,
"1992 Nouvelle Vague" is my favorite, but they are not primarily "dance" albums. I must warn
you that although I am a big fan of Max since "Give Me A Shake" and the album "Maximum II,"
I really disliked their first cd "Maximum," because speedy Euro-dance music isn't my style.
The way that I discovered new JPOP without buying a lot of expensive CDs was to view shows
like "Hey! Hey! Hey!," "Music Fair," and "Music Station." These shows may be found on cable
("Music Fair" is on International Channel, Sunday nights), broadcast TV (Hey! Hey! Hey! is on
a local San Francisco multi-lingual station), or through Japanese Video Store rentals (you're
going to have to call around in your nearest big city). These shows feature a mix of the
dance stuff you like (Max and Speed are always on when they have a new single). Also, do some
web surfing for info. Pages for Max and Namie generally have pointers to other JPOP links.
Try "Bonsai's JPOP" page, he has links for EVERYONE. Just type "JPOP Links" into a search
engine like Excite, Infoseek, or HotBot.
I also really like My Little Lover, but once again....some of their songs could be considered
"dance," but they are not a dance band. What about TRF? One of the dancers in that band is the
guy who married Namie...by the way, you didn't mention Namie...she has several dance remix
CDs, and if you're into Max, you must be into her....I also assume that you know Namie's
backup group, "Supermonkeys...." when they parted ways with Namie, they became MAX!
Good luck and happy hunting.
