Hi Benjamin, Simon,
You are right... Seiko came to promote the English album in Singapore. At that
time she performed in a 60 Raido Years Annivesary Show with Jacky Cheung. So,
there was opportunity and reason for extensive air-play. And apart from the
usual TV coverage, we had also radio coverage for this reason. The DJs had
very good reviews on the album, but only stuck to "Let's Talk About it" while
the TV focussed on the MTV (who wouldn't? :P)
However, the Mercury counterpart here just didn't optimised the good chance,
nor did any follow-up after Seiko's departure nor leverage on the newspaper
coverage they had on her. Either they were plain ignorant of the happenings
around or simply there were not concrete plans to begin with. Meaning it was
just a "come and go, and if by natural cause it hits the charts, then we will do
something from there" kind of stance.
I feel that very much it is the same case in JApan. That is why Seiko's albums
get more attention only when there is some happennings in her private life.
We cannot deny that part of it has alot to do with that SUPERSTAR AURA that
is unseen in Japan, but that should not replace the need for proper planning
in developing the singer aspect of Seiko and her career.
The end result we see is we have people who don't know anything other that
"Seiko" is a watch, but would stop to ask "what song", "which album" and
"WHO belongs to that voice" when they hear some of her works.
I didnt know that the 2 tracks hit the charts in HK. Thanks.
