Hi Benjamin and all,
I understand what you are saying, but you mention Seiko's style, and that is the problem I have with HS. For me, Seiko's style was "Dear Mom & Dad" and "Believe In Love" and "Eien No Shima" and "Watshi Dake No Tenshi~Angel~" and "Koisuru Omoi~Fall In Love~" and "Gone With The Rain" and "Can't Say Goodbye"...the last time I heard any song by Seiko and went "WOW" was in 1998, before HS's arrival. It all changed after the "Forever" album for me, and I have not listened to the 20th Party or L&E CDs more than two or three times. Every time I try to listen I think "this is not the Seiko style" and I get out one of the Bible CDs or Forever or Nouvelle Vague and think "this is more like it."
So for the last few years I have celebrated what Seiko has done, not what she is doing. I thought that Area 62 was OK but I also thought that it was a Kylie Minogue album in the same way that Unseasonable Shore was Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn."
Seiko is a leader, not a follower.
But yes, it is nice to hear her voice on the occasional new song, even if the biggest impact it has on me is to make me get out her older music and appreciate it even more.
And despite all of that, there is a small part of me that still believes "Forever" will not go down in history as Seiko's last great album. But one thing's for sure, Seiko will not be great again until she wants to be. She still believes but she no longer fights. Until then, "good" Seiko is better than "no" Seiko...I guess.
Best regards,
Mike
