PREPAID PHONE CARD

About 160 Seiko Matsuda prepaid telephone cards have been issued. "Pocky" was released as the first one in October 1984. Phone card is called as TELECA (registered trademark). Early phone cards were ordered by Nippon Telegraph and Telecommunications Public Corporation (later NTT), including the design, and there was a design examination. NTT issues the card classification number, which is printed on the back. Since the classification number of this era was unique for each design, a catalog containing the classification number and contents of all issued phone cards was published. Since April 1986, talent phone cards have become white printed cards that printers can freely design. All of the reprint cards have the same classification number, "110-011" or "110-016". Depending on the card, the frequency display may also be omitted. There are about 10 types of privately made Seiko telephone cards that are made by fans with low-resolution images reprinted on white cards.

Seiko's phone cards are all 50 points, that is, 500 yen as a coupon value. Other than concert sales phone cards, it was all promotional items not for sale. Many have been sold at premium prices (2,000 to 6,000 yen). However, with the spread of mobile phones, the role of telephone cards in the era has almost come to an end, and more and more collectors are giving up their phones, causing the market to plummet. As of 2020, even Seiko telephone cards are being sold for around 500 yen. There are very few items that maintain a market price of 3,000 yen or more. Only a few titles such as "Pocky", "Sony Single Collection", and "Yoru no Hit Studio" are sold at premium prices.
