JANUARY 10, 1997 IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE DECIDED TO PUT AN END TO OUR 12 YEARS OF MARRIAGE AND GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS. WE HAVE TRIED OUR BEST TO RESPECT AND SHARE EACH OTHER'S TALENTS. HOWEVER, LATELY, EACH OF US IN OUR OWN WAY, HAD SEEN STRUGGLING TO FIND BALANCE BETWEEN WORK AND FAMILY, WHICH AS ITS CONSEQUENCE, DESTROYED OUR SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP AS HUSBAND AND WIFE. DURING OUR OWN ANGUISH, WE FORGOT THE MEANING OF COMPASSION AND INSTEAD OF SHARING, EXPECTED FOR THE VOID TO BE FILLED BY THE OTHER. THEREFORE, WE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE TIME AWAY FROM EACH OTHER AND RECONSIDER OUR OWN LIVES. THE FATE WHICH UNITED THE TWO OF US HAS BLESSED US WITH OUR WONDERFUL DAUGHTER. IT IS WITH ENORMOUS REGRET THAT WE HAVE IN THIS MATTER, HAVE BROKEN OUR SWEET DAUGHTER'S HEART. FOR HER, WE HOPE TO DEAL WITH THIS MATTER AS PEACEFUL AND WITHOUT AGITATION AS POSSIBLE. WE ARE PEOPLE WITH NORMAL EMOTIONS. WE HAVE SUFFERED AND SHED MANY TEARS. WE ASK, FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, FOR YOUR KINDEST UNDERSTANDING AND CONSIDERATION. EACH OF US WILL CONTINUE OUR BEST ENDEAVORS IN OUR CAREERS AS ARTISTS, WE RESPECTFULLY ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT. SINCERELY YOURS, Seiko Matsuda + Masaki Kanda
